The art of creating aromas was born in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. It was further developed by the ancient Romans and Persians. During the Middle Ages, the technique was perfected by Arabs and Europeans. The reason perfumes were so universally used in the past is purely practical; so that the unpleasant body odors, which were a result from rare bathing, could be hidden. For centuries, making perfumes only needed natural products. However, due to developments in the chemical industry during the last century, the perfume industry as begun to see more artificial aromas, parabens, artificial coloring agents, preservatives, etc. Although the artificially made perfumes are widely popular, natural perfumes remain preferable to those who do not want to contaminate their bodies with toxic chemical ingredients and to those who desire natural perfumes for their indisputable advantages.
Natural perfumes last much longer. They are absorbed well by the skin and the aromatic molecules are released gradually with body heat. They have a greater aroma concentration -20%, and they have a greater influence over our body because they contain natural essential oils. They are applied to the pulse points; the inner side of the wrists, at the bottom of the neck, and behind the ears. The natural products, which are used in perfumes and give their unique aroma, are derived as essential oils from different plants. A few of them have animal origins, such as musk form a musk deer, ambergris form sperm whales, bee products, etc. Natural perfumes form crystals when the temperatures are low, which proves its quality and longevity.
To make a natural perfume at home is much more difficult that making other cosmetic products. The first difficulty you may face is finding all the necessary products. Even if you manage to find all the natural ingredients, you will need a lot of time to experiment with the creation of a pleasant and desired aroma. If you have neither the time nor the desire to experiment with the creation of a perfume, you may just buy it from a certified producer. This is a guarantee that the ingredients will not have any artificial components, which is why you gave up using certain brand perfumes to begin with.
